Episode 5: Take Your Eyes Off Your Phone And Put Your Eyes On Your Spouse

Keep reading for shownotes and to learn about this week's action item. Your spouse will thank you!

Shownotes:

  • Today we are talking about less screen time. Putting your phone down. It’s a hot topic.

  • Put the phone down and look at your spouse

  • I am the first to admit I have a problem with looking at my phone too much

  • Hanging out with husband with my head in my phone - he’s understanding

  • I knew I looked at my phone too much but it really became apparent when I was on my phone for our whole 30 minute drive - that’s when my understanding husband looked at me and asked “what’s so interesting on that phone? Do you care more about the people you’re texting than me?”

  • Wow, that question made me think

  • The phone is captivating

  • Small box of entertainment and it’s so easy

  • I realized I had a problem and I decided to make a change

  • Instead of engaging with the people on your phone, engage with the person you committed your life to - you should be looking at your spouse, not at a box in your hand

  • I’m an action-taker and I’ve been making a change

  • My husband has noticed a change since I’ve worked on being more present and putting my phone down more

  • I saw disappointment and hurt on my husband’s face - I finally woke up

  • Now I’m all in and I would love to be accountable together

  • Reach out to me and let’s help each other stay accountable

  • I don’t have any hard and fast “rules”, I am just being more intentional about my phone use

  • For me, it’s been a mindset shift

  • Realizing WHY I’m not on my phone - so I can look at my husband and be with my children - that’s super helpful for me to think about who is hurt by my excessive phone usage

  • I have noticed that I can just put my phone face down and when I feel the urge to look at my phone, I tell myself “no”

  • I say “no” to myself because I feel more present in my life and I’m living my own life and I’m present with the people I’m with

  • Living my life has been bringing me a lot of joy

  • Look your family in the eyes, it makes them feel loved

  • ACTION ITEM: think about/journal through these questions (quietly thinking for 5 minutes) Do you have a problem with your phone? Most likely everyone says yes. If yes, who is most hurt by you looking at your phone too much? How can I change this and how can I be more intentional with my time? Do you need your husband or a friend to hold you accountable?

  • I want you to get intentional and find more joy in your life.
