Shownotes:
· What is deep breathing, why should we do it and what’s in it for us mamas
· Deep breathing=diaphragmatic breathing aka belly breathing
· You know you’re breathing deeply because your stomach goes up and down
· Practice 3 deep breaths right now (in for 3, out for 10) – super relaxing and makes me want to nap
· Deep breathing helps you relax
· Deep breathing lowers the effects of the stress hormone cortisol so you can enjoy your day more and stay calm in your busy day
· Deep breathing lowers heart rate and blood pressure
· Deep breathing improves your core
· Deep breathing helps you exercise more effectively and makes it easier to chase your toddler
· Help yourself relax and be calmer by taking deep breaths
· Action item: take 10 deep breaths a day
· I love taking action and I want you to see some positive change in your life
· Benefits for moms: calm and peace and being able to handle toddler tantrums better
· My daughter told me to take a deep breath in a moment when I really needed to breathe - it changed my mood and made me calmer
· Second challenge/action item: when an upsetting situation happens, pause before reacting and take a deep breath - maybe even count to 5 too before responding
· To recap, deep breaths mean breathing with your diaphragm - letting your stomach expand (look for your stomach moving to know you are breathing deep enough)
· There are a million reasons to breathe deeply - there are benefits mentally, physically, emotionally
· Breathing will create more calm and peace in your day (side benefit: your little one will notice and might even mimic you)
· Everyone can do well to breathe more, and moms especially can take better care of themselves and everyone else when they are calmer, and deep breaths will definitely do that.
· 2 ACTION ITEMS: 1) Take deep breaths 10 times a day (practice breathing when you’re not upset so you can breathe when you’re upset) 2) When an upsetting situation happens, pause and take a deep breath (maybe even count to 5 too)
